No Logon Servers Available
When you try to log in to a Windows Active Directory domain, the client user receives the following Windows error message — There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
There may be many reasons for this special situation. In most cases, the order of domain services on the affected domain controller is incorrect.
How to Fix No Logon Servers Available
1. Ensure that the Client System Points to a Valid Server
To fix the “there are currently no logon servers” issue, you should ensure that the client system points to a valid server. Here is how to do that:
Step 1: Open the Command Prompt window.
- Windows 7 and earlier — In the Windows desktop Start menu, select Run and type cmd.
- Windows 8 and later — Press the Windows key + Q, then type cmd in the search.
Step 2: Type ipconfig /all and write down the TCP/IP address of the primary DNS server.
Step 3: Confirm that this address represents a currently valid and working DNS server. You can also type nslookup and press Enter at the same command prompt. Then type the hostname of the DNS server, make sure the correct TCP/IP address is listed.
Then, you can check if the “there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request” issue. If not, try the next solution.
2. Ensure that the Netlogon Service Is Running
You can also check if the Netlogon service is running on the Domain Controller (DC). Follow the guide below:
Step 1: Open the service interface.
- Windows Server 2008 R2 and earlier versions — Open the Start menu, then select Run and typemsc.
- Windows Server 2012 and higher — press the Windows key + Q key , then type msc in the Search box. When the services.msc icon is displayed, click it.
Step 2: Scroll to the Netlogon service and make sure the Status is Running.
Now, check to see if the “there are currently no logon servers” has been fixed.
3. Check the TCP/IP Address
In method 1, under the “ipconfig /all” command, if the TCP/IP address of the client system starts with 169.254.x.x, this means that the system cannot obtain a valid address from the DHCP server. You should start troubleshooting from here. Then, the “no logon servers available” issue should be fixed.
